In this video, I walk you through how to safely remove the steering wheel and airbag on a Mercedes-Benz R107 (specifically my 1987 560SL). This marks the first episode in a new playlist dedicated to the instrument cluster, where I’ll be covering:
✅ Odometer/Speedometer gear replacement (a common R107 issue)
✅ Clock and tachometer diagnostics (mine are currently non-functional)
✅ Adding a secondary cluster ground for improved reliability
✅ Partial refurbishment—cosmetically and functionally—so it looks and performs like new
All the R107 manuals and resources in one place — free and online.

🔧 IMPORTANT: This video is NOT a guide for centering your steering wheel! Proper centering begins with aligning the power steering gearbox. I’ve already made a dedicated video on that topic. R107 - Installing a Power Steering Gearbox • R107 - Installing a Power Steering Gearbox
Only adjust the steering wheel’s position if:
✅ Your gearbox is already centered
✅ Your wheel alignment is correct
✅Your steering wheel is still visually off-center
If those three boxes are checked, then yes—you can re-center the steering wheel by adjusting its position on the spline.
