Following the publication of a report on the preparation of countries aspiring to join the European Union, Aleksander Cwalina, the assistant director of the Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council, stressed that Brussels sets high requirements for future members, which the candidates have problems meeting. All candidate countries have problems with the rule of law, with corruption, and some have unregulated border issues with their neighbors. All this prolongs the negotiation process.
