How to write a personal essay & how to use transition words

In this video, we look at two of your questions relating to personal essays and transition & linking words and phrases.

We begin by looking at how to plan for and write a personal essay to apply to academic programs. This is especially useful if you are applying for university through the common app and need some ideas.

We work through the steps, from research and brainstorming all the way to a final draft.

The second part looks at transition/linking words & expressions. These are used to connect ideas, sentences, paragraphs, and so on. These expressions have functions. For example:

Add: in addition, moreover, furthermore, another, etc.
Show similarity: likewise, in the same way,

There are many transition words that are useful for all kinds of writing, both in academic writing and business writing.
