Upon the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., several Cabinet Secretaries led by Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Antonio Ernesto Lagdameo Jr. visit the typhoon-affected areas in the City of San Fernando, La Union on 17 November 2025 following the impact of Super Typhoon ‘Uwan’.
The national government officials first inspect the coastal area of Purok 2B in Barangay San Agustin, which was severely impacted by the storm surge during the super typhoon, flooding homes and displacing families.
According to Director Anniely Ferrer from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office I, over 41,000 families in Barangay San Agustin and Barangay Poro have been affected by Super Typhoon ‘Uwan’. Most of these victims are the same families displaced by Typhoon ‘Emong’ last July.
More than 7,000 houses in these two coastal communities are also partially or entirely damaged.
During the inspection, SAP Lagdameo, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, and Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. check on the condition of the families who have returned to their homes.
Alongside the Provincial Government officials, they discuss the Administration’s ongoing relief efforts and plans to permanently move the coastal families out of harm’s way.
From the coastal area of Barangay San Agustin, SAP Lagdameo and the Cabinet members head to the Regional Evacuation Center in La Union to personally assess the damage, where the roofs have been torn off. They receive a briefing from the Provincial Government on its plans to rebuild the facility.
The Office of the President (OP) provides Php10 million each to the Provincial Government of La Union, City of San Fernando and the Municipality of Bauang.
Similarly, the DSWD distributes Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) in Barangay Poro, providing Php5,265 in cash to each affected family to meet their immediate needs, along with family food packs.
