The India–EFTA Free Trade Agreement comes into force from Wednesday, 1st October, marking a major boost for trade and investment. Under the pact, New Delhi has secured an investment commitment of USD 100 billion over 15 years from the four-nation European bloc — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. The agreement allows several products, including Swiss watches, chocolates, biscuits, and cut and polished diamonds, to be imported at lower or zero customs duties, with phased reductions over 10 years. This will give domestic consumers access to high-quality European products at more affordable prices while strengthening economic ties between India and EFTA nations.
