[KiniNews] Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has chastised a Chinese-language newspaper over its mistake in the Jalur Gemilang flag.

His Majesty said the newspaper’s management and editors should have been more careful in checking its materials before it went to print.

Sultan Ibrahim pointed out the flag is more than just a coloured piece of cloth and emphasised that it is the symbol of a nation’s sovereignty and identity.

Meanwhile, in a separate story, former education minister Maszlee Malik viewed the apology by Sin Chew Daily as insufficient and called for authorities to take stern action without compromise over the matter.

In an apology published yesterday, Sin Chew had blamed a technical error for the mistake, and vigorously apologised.

It fixed the digital version of the illustration and republished the corrected illustration in its print edition today.
