How can you reframe negative thinking? In this video you'll learn how a simple gratitude journal can teach you how to change your thoughts from negative to positive.
I used a gratitude journal to successfully stop being so negative and noticed a difference immediately. I’m a fan of journaling anyway and tagging on a gratitude journal was not a difficult habit to start.
I have always thought of myself as an optimistic person. When I first came to America, I was so happy as a newly married woman. But after a few months I started to notice some faults with our home. And the more I noticed the faults I couldn’t shake them, in fact I noticed more. The negativity seemed to snowball.
First, I tried to stop complaining about our house … cold turkey! That didn’t even last 24 hours. I was fighting a losing battle. I needed a different approach.
So, I tried writing down 10 things a day that I was grateful for. It might seem like a lot, but surprisingly it was easy. Day after day I was coming up with things I loved about my house. But the gratitude didn’t stop there. I found things I liked about myself, the modern conveniences in my life, my relationships, nature.
Why is gratitude important? By noticing things to be grateful for I had replaced my tendency to be negative. I had found the answer to how to stop being negative and instead focus on the positive.
So how can you try the attitude of gratitude?
1. Try a gratitude journal
2. Write a letter of thanks to someone
3. Notice the little things in the moment
I still live in that same house that I was so negative about. The annoyances didn’t change. My attitude changed. My perception shifted.
That’s the power of gratitude!
