OC Transpo O-Train Line 1 (Confederation Line), the City's new LRT system, opened to the public on September 14, 2019 after 6 years of construction at a cost of $2.13 Billion. The original opening date was suppose to have been June 2018 with the system handed over after construction to the City/OC Transpo in May 2018. The LRT system was handed over to the City on August 23, 2019
However after the opening of O-Train LRT Line 1, there has been ongoing reliability issues. To resolve the reliability issues, OC Transpo has agreed to shut down O-Train Line 1 on certain days in 2020 at the request of Rideau Transit Group/Rideau Transit Maintenance (or "RTG/RTM," the organization in the Public Private Partnership that built and maintain the LRT system -- https://rtg-rtm.com/en/).
As a result, replacement bus service, known as Route R1 was implemented. Route R1 in also known internally as "Route 701". Route R1 operates whenever there is a service disruption to O-Train Line 1, planned or unplanned.
Planned closures occurred on:
May 2 to 3, 2020 inclusive
May 9 to 13, 2020 inclusive
May 31 to June 3, 2020 inclusive
June 21 to 28, 2020 inclusive (with a possibility of additional closure beyond that date if requested by RTG/RTM)
