ABOUT THIS SECTION
Sean Connelly discusses his work on Native liberation in Hawai‘i through the concept of ‘Āina, which means "that which feeds." He highlights the detrimental effects of U.S. imperialism, termed Agromilitourization – the overlapping forces of Agriculture, Military, Tourism, and Urbanization – that damage ʻĀina and harm Native well-being on Hawaiian land. Connelly's project, ʻĀINAVIS, maps grassroots movements and organizations working to restore and protect ʻĀina, fosters community dialogue and action, and promotes Indigenous knowledge and resilience.
