Today we’re watching America’s Airborne Beavers – Operation Beaver Drop, and I genuinely did not think that sentence was real when I first read it 😭

Yes — actual beavers.
Yes — actual parachutes.
Yes — an actual plane.

This is one of those stories that sounds completely unhinged until you slowly realize… it actually worked??? In the late 1940s, a group of World War II veterans working for Idaho Fish and Game decided the best way to relocate beavers into remote mountain areas was to strap them into boxes with parachutes and drop them from the sky. And somehow, against all odds, the beavers survived and went on to build wetlands that helped entire ecosystems.

As someone who loves history, animals, and stories that feel like they should be fake but aren’t, this video had me hooked immediately. It’s equal parts:

fascinating

ridiculous

oddly wholesome

and extremely “it’s not stupid if it works” energy

Also… the beaver named Dono absolutely stole the show.
