Fun time at new Folga Restaurant near Margao, South Goa, July 2023

Folga Bar & Kitchen is a new restaurant in the Seraulim fields close to Margao, Goa. Folga is as passionate about the beauty of rural South Goa, as we are.Set beside the lush fields of Seraulim, Folga, which is Konkani for having fun, or aish karoing, truly invites you to chill out with a gang of buddies. This restaurant is so close to the Sal river that there is river water spill on both sides, giving it a lovely waterside setting. And its design has done full justice to the beautiful nature on all sides. Here, even when you are sitting indoors, you feel like you’re out amidst nature, while at a safe distance from the monsoon rain.

To get to Folga, continue straight from Margao’s KTC Bus Stand on the Panjim highway. Take the left turn before KFC, which goes to the Margao wholesale fish market and Western Bypass highway. Continue past the fish market and the bypass turnoff towards the new Seraulim rail underpass. After you pass the Western Bypass turnoff, keep looking out on the left till you see the Folga Bar & Kitchen board. If you’re coming from the Seraulim rail underpass or Majorda-Betalbatim side, you’ll easily spot Folga on the right.

On stepping inside, we felt like going back outdoors right away, invited by the lights of Folga’s special sign board in the green garden space beyond the bar chairs and field-facing tables. We had fun posing for group shots in the garden swing against the amazing backdrop of the Seraulim fields. We really did have a fun time at Folga. Of course, we enjoyed the food and drink. But we also had fun because the beauty of the space and the green all around elevated our experience. We don’t have too many restaurants with this kind of ambience in the south, away from the beaches.

There are many kinds of seating options to choose from. From cute tables for two, to bar seating, to comfy larger tables with cushioning. Basically, options for all group sizes.

Folga has live music every night, except Mondays. On Thursdays and Saturdays, they feature newcomer bands and musicians. On Sundays, the live music is at lunch time as well as dinner time. (Friday is karaoke night).

The serene green views and cheerful ambience put everyone in a really good mood. This is one meal that we really laughed and enjoyed our way through.

What we ate and drank from the mixed menu of Goan, Continental, Asian and Indian: Virgin mojitos (Rs 200), French fries (Rs 200), chicken satay (Rs 310), pineapple chilli mojito, pork ribs BBQ (Rs 410), beef rolado (Rs 399), mom and dad cooler, beef tongue pepper garlic (Rs 350), veg fettuccine red sauce (Rs 340), special fish thali (Rs 225), prawns rawa fry (Rs 490), chonak rawa fry (Rs 225), veg thali (Rs 150).

It was a happy gang that finally tore themselves away from Folga and towards siesta time. But we’ll be back, and soon.
