🍞 Cheese & Smoked Sausage Bread in the Air Fryer
📐 Baking Pan
I used a metal loaf pan sized 20 × 11 × 6 cm (8 × 4.3 × 2.4 inches).
❗ Important:
A silicone pan is not suitable for this recipe — the bread will not bake properly inside.
🥣 INGREDIENTS
Sponge (Starter):
• Warm milk (not hot) — 120 ml (½ cup)
• Yeast:
• 13 g fresh yeast or
• 5 g dry yeast
• Sugar — 1 tsp
• Flour — 2 tbsp
Dough:
• Egg — 1
• Salt — ½ tsp
• Vegetable oil — 40 ml (3 tbsp)
• Flour — 180 g (about 1½ cups) ± (depending on flour type)
Filling:
• Hard cheese — 50 g (1.7 oz), grated
• Smoked sausages — 2, sliced into rounds or small pieces
👩🍳 INSTRUCTIONS
1️⃣ Make the Sponge
Pour warm milk into a bowl.
Add yeast, sugar, and flour.
Mix lightly — small lumps are perfectly fine.
Cover with a towel or plastic wrap and let rest for 10–15 minutes, until the sponge becomes active and bubbly.
2️⃣ Make the Dough
Add to the sponge:
• egg
• salt
• vegetable oil
Mix well.
Gradually add the flour — do not add all at once.
The dough should be:
• soft
• elastic
• not sticky and not dense
3️⃣ First Rise
Shape the dough into a ball and cover the bowl.
🔸 Tip:
Turn the oven on to the lowest temperature for a few minutes, turn it off, and place the dough inside.
This helps the dough rise faster and more evenly.
Let the dough rise until it increases 2–3 times in size (about 1 hour).
4️⃣ Shape the Bread
Gently punch down the dough and stretch it into a rectangle.
Spread the cheese and smoked sausages evenly.
Roll the dough, sealing the filling inside, and shape into a loaf.
Place into a greased metal pan.
5️⃣ Second Rise
Brush the top with egg yolk.
Place the pan in a warm (not hot!) oven —
❗ Maximum temperature: 60°C / 140°F, otherwise the yeast may die.
Let the bread rise again until doubled.
6️⃣ Baking in the Air Fryer
Transfer the pan to the air fryer.
Bake on “Bake” mode at 150°C / 300°F for 40 minutes.
🔻 Place the rack on the lowest level to prevent the top from burning.
If you prefer to bake this bread in a regular oven, follow these instructions:
• Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F
• Bake the bread for 25–30 minutes

Brush the hot bread with:
• melted butter
• a little garlic
• a pinch of salt
• chopped dill
