Uganda Election Observers Concerned About Internet Cuts, Media Bias | VERTEX

Election observers in Uganda on Saturday (January 17) noted their concern over what they say are reports of biased media coverage and internet shutdowns during the East African nation's general elections.

Former Nigerian president and the head of the African Union (AU), COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) and IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development), Goodluck Jonathan, addressed journalists before the country's final election results were announced.

Uganda's electoral commission said at a ceremony in the capital Kampala on Saturday that Museveni had received just under 72% of the vote. His main challenger, the pop singer-turned-politician, Bobi Wine, was credited with 24%.
