During late night feedings (and especially if your baby or infant confuses day and night), it could be because of light. One thing that can create this is exposing blue light (or any form of white light) to your baby. This includes 99% of lightbulbs, nightlights, and screens. If you have trouble getting your baby back to sleep in the middle of the night, or if you have trouble getting back to sleep, you can try this trick - get a red headlamp or any red light.
If you need to change or feed your baby in the middle of the night, you ideally want him or her to go back to sleep as soon as possible. Blue light (which is any white light) will send a message to your brain (and your baby’s brain) to think it’s daytime when it’s still nighttime. This can make it harder for you and your babe to get back to sleep. So, what I do for middle of the night changes or feeds is get a headlamp with a red light on it and that’s how I’m able to see when I need to get up.
If your light has both a white and red light, you will want to check you’re pushing the right one before shining it directly at your baby in the middle of the night.
This also applies to your phone. Your phone emits mostly blue light so don’t use your phone if you’re looking to get better quality sleep. If you want to change the settings on your phone to be more red, watch this video - Matt Maruka How to make your iPhone screen red - • How to Make Your iPhone Screen Red for Blu...
So, get one of these to ensure better sleep for you and your baby.
FYI - Poops are yellow so a bit hard to see with the red light but I don’t think you have to do an amazing job cleaning their bum in the middle of the night.
