La Fiorentina partecipa alla Champions League e arrivano Abel Balbo, Chiesa, Mijatovic, Amor e Daniele Adani.
Ma il doppio impegno toglie energie al campionato e la squadra fatica ad ingranare.
Diverso il discorso in Coppa dove la Fiorentina vince a Wembley contro l' Arsenal e contro i campioni in carica del Manchester United.
Ma la memorabile corsa viola si ferma a Valencia, reo un arbitraggio molto discutibile.
Anche il finale di stagione è doloroso, Batistuta batte il record di Hamrin e annuncia l'addio. Finisce un era e iniziano le prime contestazioni al presidente Vittorio Cecchi Gori.
