Before the game I caught up with Sherwood First Team Coach Aaron and Retford United Manager Ryan, who both spoke about their seasons so far and what this huge Vase fixture meant for their clubs. Two ambitious sides, one spot in the last 32 up for grabs!

On the pitch, it was tight from the first whistle. Sherwood struck first after just 8 minutes when their Number 10 produced a brilliant moment—beating two men on the left and finding the bottom corner via the post! Retford responded well and created chances but went into the break 1-0 down.

The second half was just as close… and Retford finally got their breakthrough on 63 minutes. A cross from the left was headed up into the air by a Sherwood defender, the keeper came out, and the Retford man reacted quickest to head home the equaliser! 1-1 and the game was wide open.

With both teams pushing, it was Sherwood who delivered the decisive moment—a composed finish on 77 minutes to put them back ahead. Retford threw everything forward late on, but Sherwood held firm in what was truly a tie of fine margins.
