Tall buildings are typically governed by wind loads and the shape of the structure can affect the wind load. Shaping buildings to reduce wind loads is an easy way to make the structure more efficient by reducing wind loads on buildings.

Designing tall buildings for wind is a complex design task and the wind loads are affected by both the structural dynamic properties of the structure and the shape a building. Both of these elements can be addressed in the early concept stages of a building design and requires both engineers and architects to come together to design skyscrapers that are structurally efficient. The shape of the building had a big effect on reducing the wind loads, and efficient building shapes for reducing wind can have a big variance in solutions leading to some of the most iconic buildings around the world due to their unique shapes.

As the push to build taller and taller it is necessary to be shaping buildings to allow for the tower to cut through the wind and reducing the effect from Vortex Shedding. I will be going through some of the most iconic tall buildings and how they have been designed to reduce wind loads.
