Adult Children of Alcoholics and Psychotherapy: Therapist to Therapist

ACA / ACoA is an adjunctive therapeutic tool for clients in therapy. We are all treating toxic shame, complex PTSD, and substance use disorders. I want my fellow clinicians to know the value in referring clients to this fellowship. I am reaching out to all psychotherapists and substance abuse professionals.

Working the ACA/ACoA 12 Step Program, Adult Children of Alcoholics, helps to heal a core wound of abandonment and extingiush the 14 Laundry List traits. The traits represent the reason most people enter treatment. Why not use ACA as an adjunctive community support for our clients in therapy?

ACA is a 12 Step fellowship, using 12 Steps and 12 Traditions similar to Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon. The Big Red Book is the primary text and is supported by several workbooks. Meetings follow formats like those first created an AA and Al-Anon. ACA is a non-professional self help fellowship.
