I Need You - Guitar Tutorial (4K) - Rickenbacker 360/12 - Cordoba C7

I Need You was recorded on February 15, 1965; The first of six consecutive recording days needed to produce the songs to their upcoming movie soundtrack. The Session earlier in the day (which ran from 2:30 to around 5:45) saw the completion of Ticket to Ride. The second session (which ran from 7 to 10:30 daw the completion of two songs. The first being McCartney's "Another Girl" and the Second Being Harrison's "I Need You".

The group spent the last two hours of the session working out and recording a basic rhythm track which consisted of Lennon on a snare drum, Harrison on classical guitar, McCartney on bass and Starr hitting the back of Harrison's J160e. Everything was recorded on to track one of the four track tape. Five takes were recorded with take five being deemed the best and by 10:30 the session was concluded.

The next day at around 2:30, overdubs began. The first on the agenda was for Harrison to record his lead vocals with McCartney harmonizing on the last phrase of each verse. Onto track four Harrison and McCartney double tracked their vocals with Starr playing the cowbell. Harrison, Lennon and McCartney then overdubbed background vocals.

The final overdub was Harrison's lead guitar.

By about 4:30 the song was complete.


THE GUITAR PARTS:
Both guitar parts were played by Harrison.

George played his Jose Ramirez on the basic rhythm track. The only things to really take note of is the change in the strumming pattern in the bridges (i.e 0:58). It also might be worth noting how he mirrors the same suspended chords as the overdubbed electric.

Harrison then overdubbed the lead guitar on his 1963 Rickenbacker 360/12.
Some things to take note of here...
the different positions used by George in the F#m, C#m, F#m sequence (0:43)
The voicings he chooses during the " I just cant go on anymore..." sequence. a. A B major in the D shape, A D6 at the 10th fret and an E7 played in the A shape at the 7th. The D6 chord specifically is used as a substitution for B minor.
Harrison switches to playing the Bm at the seventh fret starting at 1:29
The sporadic volume swells...
