Performed with either piano or orchestra, Mahler's landmark "Rückert-Lieder" were originally published independently of each other before later being connected via their poetry by Friedrich Rückert and similar themes. Due to this backstory, the set may be performed in any order the singer desires, allowing them to tell their own story. This performance features 2020-21 Artists in Residence Erin Alford and Anthony Benz.
