Concebido en 1993 por el productor Arthur Baker y el bajista y director musical Lati Kronlund, Brooklyn Funk Essentials es un colectivo musical que mezcla funk, acid jazz, hip hop y neo soul, con algunos destellos de reggae. Ya en la última década del siglo XX, el grupo se convirtió en uno de los esenciales de la escena en los clubs de la ciudad de Nueva York. Con siete álbumes de estudio en su haber, sus canciones han sido banda sonora de películas y series televisivas como The Sopranos, Starsky y Hutch, The Blacklist e incontables anuncios. El grupo, ofreciendo una energía en directo espectacular, es una auténtica factoría de ritmo, alegría y ganas de vivir, la quintaesencia del funk.
