Social "involution" is a worldwide emerging phenomenon in which society ceases to progress, and people intensify their competition for no additional benefits. Non-traditional mathematician John Li takes this vague concept and makes it rigorous and understandable via a mathematical approach, including explanations on its definition, the cause, the side-effect, and the solution. John's humour and visualization technology also made this math class a fascinating journey to experience the beauty of math. John Li is a quantum physics PhD drop-out from USC, a former NSF Fellow, entrepreneur, inventor, game designer, mathematician, physicist, computer scientist, educator, and rule-breaker. John Li's vision is to make math skills universally accessible via his math-engine technology. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
