A comparison of two West Yorkshire Gillett and Johnston Rings of 8, which I rang on my branch's AGM at Otley (in which I had a nice dinner!), but I also took the oppertunity to make a comparison between these two rings of bells at Churches of St Oswald Guiseley (Tenor 16-3-7) and All Saints Otley (Tenor 16-0-20) which are just miles from eachother (and are both in the City of Leeds Metropolitan Borough). I recorded both of them while in the stairwell of the respective church and the Guiseley recording was Grandsire (althought it was not very good an we just managed through a touch of Bob Tripes, and I was on the 3rd) and Otley recording was Plain Bob Triples. In my opinion, although both are good to ring, Guiseley's tone is a little more tingier and bright while Otley is more fat and full, but Otley have also been recently restored as I rang for the rededication service in January and I rang at Guiseley for the Branch Christmas Carol service in December....both rings are a pleasure to ring.
