John Primer (born 1945) is an American blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter, widely recognized as one of the last true heirs to Chicago’s classic electric blues tradition. Raised in Mississippi and shaped by front-porch blues and gospel, he moved to Chicago in the 1960s, where he quickly became a respected figure on the South Side club scene. Primer went on to play with icons such as Muddy Waters, Magic Slim, and Willie Dixon — experiences that deeply influenced his powerful, authentic sound.

Known for his driving rhythm guitar, soulful vocals, and deep connection to traditional blues roots, Primer has spent decades preserving and advancing the genre.
