Dr. Nuila lets us experience a different perspective of the medical industry by taking us through patient interactions. Through his anecdotes we are able to learn about the importance of understanding and ways we can apply his lessons to our daily lives.
Dr. Ricardo Nuila is an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine, where he works simultaneously as a hospitalist at Ben Taub General Hospital while also teaching internal medicine and classes on the intersection of medicine and the humanities to both residents and medical students. His essays have been published in numerous prestigious medical journals including The New England Journal of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Nuila is also an accomplished fiction writer who has been published in McSweeney’s, Ninth Letter, and The Indiana Review, among others. His short story “Dog Bites” was anthologized in The Best American Short Stories of 2011, a collection curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Geraldine Brooks. He also teaches a class in the Honors Program of the University of Houston on Literature and Medicine, within the University’s Medicine and Society Program and collaborates with other faculty within the Honors Program in Health Professions.
