I have something to say about Foiling

One of the things that’s been irritating me of late is that people keep getting all hung up on whether it’s called “tow-foiling, tow boogie, prone foiling, surf foiling, e foiling.”

Firstly who cares!!!!

Secondly, you don’t actually ride around Prone on the foil so it shouldn’t be called Prone anyway.

It should be called surf foiling. Bare with me for my first world rant :)

Now - in regards to Tow Foiling/Tow boogie. I’ll grant you - you catch way more waves and use way less energy than you would if you were paddling around trying to catch waves.

For me - When my wife comes down to film me there is NO way I could produce the content I do if she had to wait for me to find a chip in then surf etc. It’s just not going to work.

Some people seem to think I can only foil good “because” I’m using the boogie.

My foil of choice is dependent on the conditions. If there’s lots of chip ins and not many surfers to compete with - then I won’t use the boogie. However - this is so rare that if I only foiled and filmed on those days you guys would never get any content out of me. The boogie allows me to maximise filming time. I still pump around heaps - I just cut that out of the edit cause it’s boring. Most boogie waves I get a 5 in 1 which is similar to what I’d do on this set up if I was paddling.

Wategoes is where so many clips from the likes of Bennett comes out. Wategoes is such a unique setup and so ideal - nice chip in up top and enough sections that you rarely need to pump out the back. People treat that wave like a tow foil wave. But we don't call that "Walk Around Prone Foiling."

They shred their wave through 4 or 5 waves then come into the beach and walk back around and start all over again.

People can ride foils they would when towing at wategoes. Smaller surfier foils because they don’t need to stay up for 20 minutes. They wanna surf the wave then come in and walk around. Its very unique to wategoes and some other point breaks.

I don’t have access to a wave setup like that and if I did I’d love to bang out some clips for the critics. I’ve got Noosa but that’s insanely busy.

All this to say - I boogie the exact foil and board setup that I’d use at Wategoes. It’s not a tiny foil and board to increase performance. It’s the same shit I use every other day.

So to point out that it’s Tow Foiling not Prone Foiling is an attempt to say “you can’t foil like this if you were prone.’

To those people I say - You don’t know what you’re on about. Producing video is time conusming and the boogie means I can maximise the time I have in the water.

All that to say. It's Called "Surf Foiling."
