Kenda Kruz Tires on my yamaha royal star venture after 4500 miles.. the tires are showing very little wear so far.. less than a mm gone on the front tire. and a little over a mm of rubber gone on the rear tire so far.. I am actually very suprised at the milage i am getting out of this set of tires so far.. these tires are the longest wearing tires i ever had on a heavyweight touring machine.. i cant remember the milage i was getting out of a set of tires on my first yamaha venture royale. i really didnt pay that close attention to tire milage on my 1st venture..
these tires are the correct size for this machine, and they are made for heavyweight machines... they are belted --not radial tires-which is exactly what the owners manual calls for -- non radial tires.. i run the tire pressures at the required 36-41 psi.. i only ride alone.. most of my riding on my venture is highway or backroads with not to frequent stops... these machines have integrated braking systems since they were introduced in 1983.. the front brake lever operates only one front disc.. the brake pedal operates the 2nd front disc and the rear disc.. the front disc gets most of the brake pressure.. this machine does not have ABS..
i would say these tires have an easy life without too much stress or overloading or locking up while braking or chirping of the tire under hard braking.....
i am very happy with the ride being soft from these tires, and they track straight when i let go of the bars.. these tires dont seem to have flat spot memory if the machine sits for a few weeks between rides the way rayon belted car tires use to do for about a mile or so if the car sat for a week or so,, the tires would thump for a while due to the flatspotting of the rayon belts until the tires warmed up..
these tires do make cornering noise while leaned into corners.. that is when the sides of the tires that still have most of the tread not worn down much makes that rumbling rolling hum that snow tires are known to do on dry roads..
no problems or flats or weird handling issues to mention.. the rubber feels soft and flexible ,which is no intication of how well the road will dig into the rubber, but it probably has a lot to do with the soft ride.. the tread feels soft without feeling sticky the way roadracing tires do ... i have not felt even one slip or twitch out of these tires.. of course i ride this machine like i have a bowl of goldfish on the back seat , but i dont even feel a slip when cornering over tar snakes on hot sunny days.. i know tar snakes do not grip tires.. but i cant say i felt any of the usual slipage that i feel on all of my other bikes over tar snakes even when riding straight up in a straight line.. my bikes all twitch a bit over those tar snakes but i cant say i have felt that even once on the venture with these tires...
if these tires showed a higher rate or wear, i would go with dunlops next time... but with the great milage i am getting out of these kenda kruz tires, i will definately buy them again... i like the price, i like the feel, i like the way they track straight without wobble out of the bars, i like the soft ride, and so far i like the way they last..
