Traditional Ecological Knowledge is a body of knowledge carried by cultures who have lived for generations in a particular area. This understanding of the land is invaluable and irreplaceable -- after all, we can't quickly replace a body of knowledge that's been thousands of years in the making! TEK is something people on all continents have. For some only remnants remain. Others have the opportunity to pull together these understandings from people who've kept it alive despite all attempts to destroy it. This video here takes an introductory look at what TEK is and why it's important.
You can read about specific aspects of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (especially from the Anishinaabeg -- Ojibwe/Chippewa) on my blog at waysofthewildwood.com.
