The Galerie d’Apollon of the Louvre today was once the terrace and portico of the Charles IX, but it also had another life before it was the golden beauty we know. On March 22, 1594, Henri IV announced his grand return to Paris and that he would live in the rundown medieval Palais du Louvre. From 1594 to 1608 he had a new addition added where the terrace of Charles IX once stood. The ground level would be the rooms of the queen and the summer apartments of the queen mother Anne d’Autriche under Louis XIV, connecting the Pavillon de Roi to the Grande Galerie.
