This is video 2 of 3 in a series that highlights three key habits which negatively impact the quality of your taijutsu. Go watch video 1 if you haven't already, as these are meant to be watched in order.
This video covers the habit of the "butt bend", or hinging at the hips. This not only brings your face forward into the attack (see the first video), but also breaks your vertical balance and weakens your power base. The challenge is that we already are programmed to bend at the hips. It's how we perform a squat, how we sit, and how we receive (like catching a ball, for example). However, to understand how balance, structure, and movement works in Japanese budo, you don't bend at the hips. You bend at the knees. Check out what I explain and demonstrate and you'll see what I mean.
