In this talk from Xen Summit 2025, Alexander Merritt introduces how Edera is building a secure container runtime with Xen. He explains how containers, while widely adopted, suffer from weak isolation that leaves them open to exploits and escapes. The session presents Edera’s approach of running each container inside its own lightweight Xen guest, integrating with existing runtimes for easy adoption. Alexander highlights the project’s Rust-based control plane and libraries, as well as the use of paravirtual guests on major cloud providers to strengthen container security across workloads.
