Early Groundworks from 2010 | Linleys Garden Railway Developments Autumn 2020 Part 11

Taking a quick look back to around 2010, this photo collection shows how much older work I completed in the area about 10 years ago. At the time I wanted to combine the extension to the Garden Railway with a bridge over a new path. However, when I started digging I found that the soakaway pipe was all blocked up and broken. More work than I had planned to do.

Fortunately, I was given some old crates from a garage, they were dirty but buried in the ground I didn’t care! A big hole was needed and I dug out the old soakaway pit which was mostly full of stones and rocks. I took the chance to move the downpipe from the roof too, away from the corner.
New path laid out (just needs the top slabs, which I did a few years later) and the building of the bridge. I found, though, that the long bridge was far too long and impractical to put in and take out for train running days. And it ended up too close to the path and was too visually dominant. Changes were planned – and I have spent the last couple of months doing just that…..

The summer flowers look nice though.
