What does a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) do?
We work closely with business owners to help them realize their goals.
Business owners have a unique set of challenges in addition to those of individual investors.
Typically, most – or all – of their wealth is held in the business. This entails a LOT of risks.
And it’s not just their wealth; it is their life that is invested in the business. Many see it as their baby. It becomes part of their identity. There is often no clear dividing line between what is personal and what is “professional.”
As a result, their situations can be complex, with layers of issues and levels of concern to consider and address.
In my experience, most business owners are very clear about their immediate business goals and somewhat clear about long-term goals, though they may not be sure how to get there.
Their financial outlook is often an after-thought, which they pay attention to when they have time – which is rarely.
Personal objectives are rarely considered, though these can ultimately determine whether or not the owner has a successful “second chapter.”
All these elements need to work together to be successful.
That is, an effective Plan addresses all three “legs of the stool” – the business, financial and personal concerns that are unique to each owner. We understand these issues and work with you to help you realize all of your unique goals.
This is an iterative process.
It takes time and a team of folks to do it right.
Who needs to be part of that team will change depending on where you are in the process.
