The Terminator Playthrough (SEGA CD)

Its almost common-knowledge among retro-gamers that Terminator games based off the first 2 movies almost universally suck or are not exactly very playable. I would argue that 90% of Terminator games fall into this unfortunate state. But the 10% of Terminator games that do not overly suck, and I arguably find to be pretty decent and playable, would be the Terminator games based off the 1st movie on the Sega Genesis and Sega CD. The Genesis Terminator game was one of the first Sega games I ever played/had as a young kid, and I loved it once I figured out how to play it. Now the Sega CD game on the other hand I did not play until I was in my late teens and once I got a working Sega CD I played this immediately since I had the actual disc (no case sadly though...). Loved it more or less the moment I started playing and then wondering why they developers of the several other games based on the 1st Terminator game did not follow this game a bit more closely since it was a very competent side-scrolling shooter and with balanced difficulty (the ONLY Terminator game of the era that I would argue has a balanced difficulty, even though I blow a nasty little jump right the end 3x times in a row...most frustrating) and an absolute rip-roaring' banger of a soundtrack. I think that the soundtrack alone is more famous then the game itself at this point lol! The game follows the movie pretty well, with some levels expanding the opening sequence in the future 2029 hellscape with Kyle Reese on his way to Skynet and through the complex to the Time-Displacement Equipment etc. After that its back through time to 1984 and battling the T-800. Yes you have the grainy and low quality (by today's terms that is) but it doesn't distract from the overall game play experience.It's well worth checking out and don't let the well-deserved reputation of the other Terminator games get in the way either. Unfortunately getting ahold of this game nowadays is going to be tricky since original copies are rare and not cheap at all, especially CIB copies. If you find an affordable copy though (or other ways to play it) I would highly suggest to give this a try! This game was an absolute pleasure to replay again!!! Thanks for watching!!!
