American archaeology has a strange history with Native America's past, including a decades-long denial of ancient cultures during the paleolithic age here in North America. But there are many sites in both Americas that suggest a long Native American history here on this continent.
From various Native American stories that appear to recount encounters with mammoths, the now extinct teratorn (one of the largest birds in North America) and other Ice Age animals, cultural storytelling and archaeological sites strongly suggest human presence in the Americas that go far back into the distant past.
