Talk Description
Have you ever wondered why TypeScript chooses to yell at you over perfectly valid code? There had to have been a reason. Let's talk about it! Join Josh Goldberg, author of Learning TypeScript (O'Reilly), in a fun and practical dive through the most common "ugh why?!"s of TypeScript's type checking. Each situation will be paired with our favorite phrase, "it depends!", and real-world bugs caught by TypeScript. You'll see why TypeScript sometimes chooses to be overly lenient, sometimes chooses to be more strict, and best of all how you can configure TypeScript's preferences in your TSConfig. Even if you're not a TypeScript developer yourself, you'll appreciate the ideas and software patterns shown in this talk. Let's get strongly typed! 💪
About the Speaker
Hi, I’m Josh! I’m an independent full time open source developer. I work on projects in the TypeScript ecosystem, most notably typescript-eslint: a powerful static analysis toolset for JavaScript and TypeScript code. I’m also the author of Learning TypeScript (O’Reilly), a Microsoft MVP for developer technologies, and an active conference speaker. My personal projects range from static analysis to meta-languages to recreating retro games in the browser. Also cats.
Special thanks to Progress for sponsoring our livestream this year!
