All too often these days Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Advisors, and Skippers go completely unrecognized. The Unit Leader Award of Merit seeks to right this wrong. Most unit leaders have fulfilled all seven of the requirements and never get the paperwork submitted. This video points out how to complete the requirements and get the paperwork submitted correctly. ⚠️ Note: The Unit Leader Award of Merit knot is gold embroidery on a district blue background. Four different devices can be used on the knot identifying the position earned. The NESA Scoutmaster Award of Merit is a white embroidery knot on tan uniform shirt background. This award was replaced in 1988 with the Unit Leader Award of Merit with devices.
🔑 Show Notes: Unit Leader Award of Merit Requirments -
1. Be a currently registered Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Advisor, or Skipper who has served in that position at least 18 continuous months. (ℹ New Leaders Video)
2. Meet the training requirements for the registered position. (ℹ Every Scout Deserves a Trained Leader Video)
3. Distribute a printed or electronic annual unit program plan and calendar to each family in the unit. (ℹ Running a Good Planning Seminar Video link below.)
4. Have a leader succession plan in place. (ℹ Lost Unit? Video)
5. Effectively use the advancement method so that at least 60 percent of the unit’s youth have advanced at least once during the last 12 months. *Check with the Advancement Team to make sure you're on track. (ℹ Your Unit Advancement Team? Video)
6. Cultivate a positive relationship with the chartered organization. (ℹ Your Charter Organization Video)
7. Project a positive image of Scouting in the community.
The Committee Chair fills out the form and collects the youth leader statement. When completed gives it to the Unit Commissioner.
