Nuwara Eliya is one of the most popular travel destinations in Sri Lanka. People tend to visit Nuwara Eliya mainly during the peak season in April. However, we are traveling in February, which is the off-season.

Strawberries and Nuwara Eliya share an unbreakable bond. When visiting Nuwara Eliya, almost no one forgets to buy strawberries for their loved ones back home. Everywhere you go, you can see stalls selling fresh strawberries.

Rather than buying strawberries from a store, it is a wonderful experience to pick them straight from a farm. We found a strawberry farm that allows visitors to pluck strawberries themselves. There are some popular strawberry farms that you can consider visiting Nuwara Eliya and Ambewela.

01. Jagro Strawberry Farm
Here, you can explore their strawberry fields and enjoy a relaxing coffee break at their food outlet, indulging in delicious, strawberry-loaded desserts. Jagro Strawberry also has several other outlets outside Nuwara Eliya.

There are strawberry greenhouses that you can view from the outside. However, visitors are not allowed to enter the greenhouses or pick strawberries due to safety concerns. Additionally, if it is raining, visitors are not permitted to view the greenhouses, even from the outside.

Simply Strawberries by Jagro (Café)
This is a well-known place for strawberries, offering a variety of strawberry-based products such as jam, milkshakes, juice, cheesecakes, pancakes, strawberries with cream, and even strawberry pizza.
Their cheesecake has a reputation for being one of the best. Additionally, their strawberry tarts, brownies, and Swiss rolls are absolutely delicious.

02. Sen Horti Strawberry Farm
Sen Horti Strawberry farm is famous because you can enter their greenhouse & pick fresh strawberries to taste.
Visitors can buy juice, ice cream, cakes and strawberry-based products from their restaurant.

03. Adma Agro Strawberry Farm Shop

04. Ambewela Strawberry Farms
(Ambewela is a famous location for Strawberry Farms. There are three strawberry farms located in Blackpool-Ambewela-Pattipola-Horton Plain Rd which are famous with visitors who are travelling to Nuwara Eliya.)

05. Ramya Horticulture Strawberry Farm

They will be providing a tractor tour of the strawberry farm. Enter the strawberry greenhouse and pick fresh strawberries. You can see how farmers are cultivating strawberries.

Sen Horti Strawberry Farm, located in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka, offers visitors the delightful experience of picking their own strawberries.

The farm imports strawberry plants from the Netherlands, each measuring approximately 1.5 inches at the time of planting. These plants are cultivated using Kohubath, a natural and biodegradable material derived from coconut husks, known for its eco-friendly and water-retaining properties.
Harvesting of Strawberries
Harvesting of strawberries starts two months after planting when the fruit is at its biggest, tastiest and juiciest. The first fruit from each plant is always the biggest and often the most off-shape, although extremely tasty! From this point on, harvesting takes place daily, although quantities and size vary based on the plant life-cycle and the stage of planting in the staggered planting system. As soon as the strawberries come off the plant, it is a rush to get the fruit sorted, packed to specification, labelled and into the chillers for removal of field heat. It is this process that chills the fruit down to the required temperature of 2 degrees for an optimum shelf-life of up to 2 weeks.

Sen Horti Strawberry Farm is unique because it is home to Sri Lanka's only Blackberry cultivation. In addition to strawberries, they also grow blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries,and even white strawberries, making it a diverse berry farm.

This variety of berries makes Sen Horti a special place for visitors looking to experience fresh, homegrown fruits that are not commonly found elsewhere in Sri Lanka.
The farm operates daily from 9:30 AM to 4:25 PM, providing a serene environment amidst picturesque landscapes for a memorable strawberry-picking experience.
