In Raag Hindol, I presented two bandishes that together form a subtle narrative. In the first, the nayika expresses her hesitation: her beloved is calling her to meet him, yet she fears that the sound of her anklets will reveal to others that she is going to see him. In the second bandish, the situation shifts—she is alone, and it is now she who calls out to her beloved, inviting him to meet her. These contrasting moments beautifully portray the tenderness and delicacy of young love.
I selected these compositions to bring out this emotional nuance. Indian classical music offers immense scope for bhava—the creation and exploration of emotion. Here, meaning need not always be interpreted literally; instead, the emotional landscape of a situation can be expanded, deepened, and artistically expressed.
