Winter steam at its finest — thick, cream-like clouds of vapor hanging in the freezing air long after the locomotives have passed.
In this second part of our return to Wolsztyn in 2004, we revisit the unique atmosphere that only cold weather and working steam engines can create.
This video is Part Two of our winter 2004 visit to the Wolsztyn steam depot in Poland.
We spent the nights in the welfare building of the locomotive shed, and our days were devoted to filming in and around the shed as well as at the station.
In –8°C weather, Pt47-65 hauled the morning train to Poznań, while Tr5-65 provided steam heat for the shed.
Cold and out of service in the depot were Pt47-112 and Ol49-111.
Around the depot we saw Tr5-65 (ex-G8.1), Ok1-322 (P8), Ty1-76 (G12), Ty51-223, and the hardworking regulars Pt47-65 and Ol49-69.
Later, Ol49-23 took over the Poznań service on the first train of the final day.
A memorable glimpse into the era of true scheduled steam in Wolsztyn.
