Four Spindle Automatic Short Roll Turret Winder

New Era builds a wide variety of winding systems, including short roll winders (also referred to as contractor roll winders). These systems can be provided with varying degrees of automation, particularly as it pertains to the core loading and completed roll removal. In this video, the end user utilizes a custom designed core loading system which features a hopper and cantilevered loading arm. For roll removal, the same arm articulates to eject a full roll into a tray system which then interfaces with the customers packaging system. Once the cores are loaded into the winder, the equipment automatically applies adhesive prior to the cut and transfer sequence. After the full roll is cut to length, it is ejected into the above referenced removal tray. In this case, the material has an affinity for itself, so there is no need to apply tape or affix the tail on the outside diameter. In other applications this is commonplace in order to prevent the tail from hanging loose. Given the nature of this particular web, the transfer is made at full line speed without the need for stopping or accumulation. This unit also had the ability to slit in-line. All of the loading, unloading, cutting and core prep described above is done automatically by the equipment. These designs are purpose built for the application, leaving it open to the end user to define the level of automation they would like to see for their process.
