As a relatively new Kappa owner, I had heard of the notoriously short lifespan of water pumps on our little cars. After a bit of backyard garage research, it seemed to me that the issue MAY be related to heat soak from the turbo and exhaust manifold on shut down. Based on the cars I compared, in the first 10 minutes after shut down, the water pump assembly experienced significant heat rise with no coolant flowing through the housing. The cars I obtained data from saw about a 35-40 degree heat rise with a very slow decline in temperature. With the heat shield affixed, I measured 50% less heat rise on shut down than without the barrier. While the jury is still out on whether or not it’s effective long-term, my car has 10,000 miles on it and we shall see how long the water pump lasts with a little extra protection. Initially, I did this just for my own use but others asked if perhaps I would make them available. The decision was to invest and make an initial run of 25 only. If I sell all of those, I will make more ... if not, there will only ever be 25. If you have an interest, you can shoot a note through YouTube or my email is [email protected]. Please be patient. This is not my primary vocation as I just want to help out our little community ... I will get to you as quickly as I can.
