Common Man’s Lawyer Rana Muhammad Sikander Moves LHC on Under-16 Facebook & TikTok Ban GNN NEWS

The Lahore High Court has issued notices to the Punjab Government, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and other respondents on a constitutional petition seeking restrictions on the use of Facebook and TikTok by children under the age of sixteen.

The petition was filed and argued by Rana Muhammad Sikander, Advocate High Court, widely recognized for his public interest litigation and popularly known as the “Common Man’s Lawyer” in Pakistan due to his consistent advocacy on issues affecting ordinary citizens.

The matter was heard by Chief Justice Lahore High Court, Ms. Aalia Neelum, during initial proceedings.

During arguments, Rana Muhammad Sikander submitted that unrestricted social media access exposes minors to inappropriate and harmful content, adversely impacting their education, mental well-being, and moral development. He also referred to international legislative developments in countries such as Australia and France, where strict laws have been enacted to regulate social media use by minors.

The Honourable Court issued notices and sought replies from the concerned authorities.
