Santa Barbara Courthouse Photo Ops

Explore one of Santa Barbara’s most recognizable landmarks, the County Courthouse.

Built in the late 1920s in the city’s iconic Spanish Colonial Revival style, it’s a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Photographers of all experience levels will appreciate having so many things to photograph. Because of its beauty, it’s a popular place for weddings.

Outdoor photo ops include the iconic clock tower; stone statues and fountains; intricate doors and archways; the sunken gardens and architecture. This working courthouse is open almost every day of the year (closed on Christmas day), so explore the historic mural room, spiral staircase, tile flooring and beamed ceilings, clock room (limited guided tours available) and more.

The observation deck on the clock tower is a great photo op, or romantic place to propose. It offers some of the best views of the city. The Sunken Gardens is a popular spot for community events, such as summer movie nights and, in August, evening shows during Old Spanish Days Fiesta.

before sunset or after sunrise, and especially during twilight or "Blue Hour" when the lights come on.
