6X Bodyweight (1,055 lbs) Lockout Hold for 1 Minute... my current bodyweight is 174 lbs, so this works out just over six times my bodyweight.
Now, clearly this is NOT something I would recommend that literally anybody else try and do.
I've been training loading like this for decades and over the past year, I've been working heavy holds and carries specifically like this weekly.
This is the most weight I've done for a 1 minute support (previous best was 1,000 lbs at a 30 lb heavier bodyweight).
Why do this?
Great question... from a challenge perspective, I'm always trying to push my limits. I wanted to see if I could do it.
From a training perspective, this is incredibly effective for connective tissue training. That heavy compression on the bones and connective tissue is the strongest stimulus you can get for strengthening it.
It's also amazing for developing strength in the breathing muscles.
You can't hold your breath under this weight so you have to learn how to breathe under it. If you turn on the sound, you can hear my breathing pattern... very short, deliberate breaths.
This was two quick inhales in (it's kind of like ratcheting your breath in because you can't breath in very much against that much resistance).
The one out is a bit longer since it's out. You're pushing out in one quick breathe the equivalent amount of air you take in TWO quick breathes.
The key is never letting too much out or taking too much in. The goal is to get enough breathe in without destabilizing the torso.
From a mental perspective, holds like this develop mental toughness.
I also liken it to loaded meditation.
When you have that much weight on you, your focus narrows so much that the entire rest of the world around you disappears. All you see is the numbers ticking down on the timer and all you feel is the weight compressing everything in your body.
Again, if you want to try something like this...start MUCH lighter. It's great training but you have to work up and give your body time to adapt.
