Trailer Train, today TTX, is the backbone of American intermodal railroad equipment. Few Trailers, Containers, or Automobiles travel on American rails without traveling on TTX rail cars. However, even the best make a mistake now and then. In the 1980s Trailer Train brought out a new, smaller spine car for hauling trailers. It was called a Front Runner, and it promised more efficient shipping of single trailers by reducing the weight of the car needed. On paper it looked great. Out on the road though, the 12 ton freight cars had some challenges...
