http://www.ritareys.eu In 1972 Rita Reys recorded her Edison Award winning and Gold Certified album Rita Reys Sings Michel Legrand. On occasion of it's release she travelled to France to talk with Legrand, who had also attended the recording sessions, for a TV special that was broadcast on Dutch national television. Rita also recorded several music videos for it, performing songs from the album such as I Will Wait For You, Watch What Happens and Once Upon A Summertime. The album features Toots Thielemans on harmonica and Louis van Dijk on piano. It was produced by Rita's brother-in-law Ruud Jacobs.
In the 70's Rita Reys, originally a jazz singer, recorded the repertoire Burt Bacharach and Michel Legrand, two popular composers in those days in the easy listening genre. They were very much impressed by the results, both by Rita's performance as by the orchestra arrangements by Rogier van Otterloo.
I Will Wait for You is the English version of Je Ne Pourrai Jamais Vivre Sans Toi, a song from the French musical The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964). Its music was composed by Michel Legrand and the original lyrics written by Jacques Demy. The song is a well know Michel Legrand tune that has been performed as well for example by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Liza Minelli, Nana Mouskouri, Connie Francis, Catherine Deneuve and Laura Fygi. Rita also performed it with the Pim Jacobs Trio, for example at the 1982 North Sea Jazz Festival. Among jazz musicians who have recorded versions are Oscar Peterson, Gil Evans, Donald Byrd and Louis Armstrong.
