Day 36 of Backpacking all the way to Australia & in this episode we leave Podgorica, Montenegro and cross into Albania, once again by local minibus.
Passenger fee, luggage fee, ticket printing fee… 😂
Standard Balkan transport.
After arriving in Tirana, we’re shocked by just how chaotic and busy the city is. Once we drop our bags, we head straight out in search of local food, starting with burek from a tiny street stall that ends up being so good I go back for more.
We spend the afternoon exploring the city, soaking up the madness, and I quickly realise I absolutely love Tirana’s energy.
Dinner takes us to a local restaurant recommended by others, where we try a soup that’s been on the menu for 25 years and a beef casserole baked inside a giant puffed pita, cut open at the table by the waiter. For dessert, we order what’s claimed to be the best rice pudding in Albania… and at £3, we get a second one.
A tired but very happy end to the day, back at the hotel, Netflix on, and plans for tomorrow.
This is Day 36 of travelling overland from the UK to Australia, no flights, just buses, trains, ferries, and whatever happens along the way.
