In this video, I’ll show you how to create a classic Loot glow effect in Unreal Engine 5 the same kind of visual effect you’ve probably seen in old top-down games.
We’ll build a simple glowing cylinder with a translucent material and a dynamic interaction system using Blueprints.
When the player gets close, the cylinder smoothly scales down and when they move away, it goes back to normal size.
You’ll also learn how to:
Create a translucent material with emissive color.
Use a Timeline to animate mesh scale.
Build a child Blueprint system for easy customization.
Change mesh color and pickup behavior dynamically.
I got the idea from Cronos: The New Dawn, and I’m sharing it so you can use or expand it for your own projects.
