Day 4 of our 7-Day Alaska Off-Road Adventure was a day of transitions, exploration, and lessons learned. While it wasn’t as trail-heavy, the experiences we had—from leaving the abandoned mining cabin and the river crossing back, to eventually finishing the Denali Highway—made it memorable.
We started the day leaving the mining cabin, relieved that no tires picked up any nails. Breakfast by the river set the tone for a steady drive back to the highway, where we met locals who gave us insights into the history of the cabin we found. Their stories added depth to the places we’d explored.
The day also brought a few hiccups with fuel stops, leading to a quick scramble to backtrack for gas, but we made it work. By the afternoon, we wrapped up the Denali Highway and found our next mining trail near Paxson. The evening was spent resetting camp and exploring some, setting the stage for bigger trails tomorrow.
Highlights:
• Departed the abandoned mining cabin and crossed rivers back
• Stops at Maclaren Lodge, Tangle River Inn, and Tangle Lakes Lodge (did not have gas)
• Finished the Denali Highway and reached mining trail #4
• Evening exploration and prep for tomorrow
The delays in finding gas slowed us down, but the day still had its share of scenic drives and moments of discovery. Join us as we prep for more challenging trails tomorrow!
🌲🗺️ As for most areas, I’m avoiding geotagging to help preserve these beautiful spots for everyone to enjoy and find organically on their own adventures. I’d appreciate it if we could avoid sharing or asking for exact locations in the comments. Thank you for understanding, I have a full story highlight of my thoughts on geotagging on my Instagram page. 🌲🗺️
